lavender boys (in development)

lavender boys is an experimental performance work that combines movement, text and media to create an intimate conversation on the role of “silence” within queer identity.

Queer theorist, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick suggests that “closetedness” itself is a performance initiated by the act of a silence. J. Logan Smilges; that silence can be a generative and empowering mode of survival. There is not one, but many silences and there is no binary division to be made between what one says and what one does not say.

lavender boys is a collection of silences that disseminates the roles of secrecy, shame and transformation within queer identity. Through visceral movement, images, text, and video, this piece strives to filter through the messy and celebratory silences that underlie and permeate the queer experience.
